A US woman did the unimaginable and matched all the winning numbers on two separate lottery tickets she bought on the same day, winning $1 million on each ticket.
Virginia Fike, 44, of Clarke County, Virginia, purchased two Powerball tickets on April 7, with each ticket winning her $1 million in prize money.
Ms Fike was amazed to discover that both of the tickets she bought for the Powerball draw contained the same five winning numbers – 5-13-17-20-30.
“So, really, it still just hasn’t sunk in,” Fike said.
She added she feels as if “somebody’s gonna pinch me and I’m gonna wake up and this’ll all be a dream”.
Fike said she originally planned to buy a Powerball and a MegaMillions ticket using the same numbers, but she mistakenly purchased two Powerball tickets instead.
She said she thought at the time: “If I win, I win twice so what are the odds, so I just went ahead and took the ticket.”
She chose the winning numbers based on the marriage of her parents, who wed on May 13, when her mother was 17 and her father was 20.
Ms Fike plans to meet with financial advisers to discuss how she can invest her winnings wisely.
She plans to begin using her winnings to pay off her bills.
